On 29 November 2020, the federal government announced an extension to the national HomeBuilder grant. If you’re planning to build a new home or substantially renovate one, you now have up until 31 March to sign your contract.

For contracts signed between 1 January – 31 March 2021, the grant amount will change and will be $15,000. For contracts signed before 31 December 2020 the grant amount is $25,000.

Great news if you’re in Victoria, the property price cap will increase to $850,000 from 1 January 2021. In WA it will remain at $750,000.

If you qualify, you have six months to commence your build (that is, substantial site commencement).

If you’re an owner-occupier and about to build your own home or renovate, you could be in luck.
